Prim braid | the Hunger Games
One of the braids I used to do most often in the beginning was the Prim braid on Nicole. This was before I started taking pics, and before this blog started.
Today, Nicole had our lunch, because of testing, so I took this opportunity to do the Prim braid again (for what may be the last time ever D: )
The Prim braid is super simple. Just two French braids on either side of the head, that sort of curve around the ear and then come down. Super easy, and super cute. I do think of this as more of a younger hairstyle, which is why I’ve only done it on Nicole. She’s the “baby” of our group, and the only one who could pull it off.

Prim’s braid | Catching Fire
So if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that the whole thing started with Katniss’ braid from the Hunger Games movie. So I am extra excited to be showing you Prim’s braid from the Catching Fire trailer today!! Who else can’t wait for the movie to come out??
So this is the back, and most of the hairstyle.
It’s pretty much like the Katniss braid, but with hair left over and a little bit more braid at the top. (Closeup farther down)
Here are both the side views. As you can see, it’s a bit messy, and I didn’t get the angle quite right. But the main point is still there.
And here is a closeup of the top part.
It is different from the Katniss braid in that the top part is a lace Dutch braid, then you go to a full Dutch braid (with adding hair on both sides), and then back to a lace Dutch braid.
And thanks to CuteGirlHairstyles for the tutorial!
And just for fun, the Catching Fire teaser trailer, haha

The Nested Side Braid
What? A hair post? No way!!
It may be at the last possible second, and I may have had to do it on myself, but at least it’s done! I have kept Week 1 of my April resolutions. Hopefully I can keep it up the rest of the month…
Today’s style is super easy, but still enough to spice up a boring, overused look. I’m sorry the picture is crap, but it was hard to take it on myself and it was too late at night to ask someone else to take it.
So that’s all it is folks! A small braid into a side braid. I may have done something similar before, but I’m not sure.

Double French Braid bun
This was definitely a hair fail. But I’m going to show it to you guys anyway. This was based off of this picture, but uses the same technique as the Katniss reaping braids.

Yeah…as you can see, it does not look like the picture. For one, it’s lopsided, which bugged me to know end. Also, her part is crooked. And as you can see, I made the braids into a bun instead of tucking them under like in the pic. I don’t even have the original picture, only the Instagram-ed one.
But oh well. I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t have a few mistakes every once in a while.
And this is the Katniss reaping braids. You can use this same technique, but only use half the hair to get the above braid.

The Elusive Waterfall Braid
I am in love with the waterfall braid. Like, you don’t even know (or maybe you do…). But I could never get it to work. No matter how many tutorials I watched, how many times I tried, it just never worked.
Until it did.
Okay, so I know it still sucks. But I’m quite proud of myself. I actually managed to do it!! *silent screams*
Also, as you can see, I did tie it off instead of pinning it with bobby pins. Hannah has quite thick hair and I didn’t want it to come out. Also, I didn’t want the look to be ruined with a gaggle of bobby pins in the back.
Closer up:

I have Becca to thank mainly for this. She’s the lady who cuts my hair, and the last time she did, we got to talking about braids, and she showed me how to do it. So thank you Becca! And one day, I will get it to look like Daven’s…
Up for a challenge?

Crown Braid!
I adore the crown braid. However, with my layers and stuff, it never quite worked on me. Enter: Hannah (who you will see most as one of my models because her hair is long and beautiful and uncontaminated [what we call layers] and just perfect to work with)
As you can see, her hair is so long that although the adding in hair stops at her other ear, it goes all the way to the top of her head again. In a perfect world, I would have more time than at the lunch table, and bobby pins that actually matched her hair.
I know you can’t see this very well, but it is better, seeing as how I had time and the tools.
Although I’ll post some vids here, I actually didn’t do it either of these ways. But, if I had, I would have done it Loepsie’s way because I think it’s easier and I like the way it looks better.

I <3 Braids
Braids are my favorite thing ever, because they’re quick and easy and can be changed in so many different ways. Since each of these don’t really need their own post, I’ve compiled some into one post.
The braid in braid is so cute, yet simple. It adds a nice little pop, and is one of my favorites. Because my hair has no dimension, this actually doesn’t show up if I do it. So, it’s better for those who have lighter or highlighted hair.
This one is slightly blurry, so I don’t know if you can see it well, but it’s actually three fishtails into a regular braid. I believe this one was inspired by a picture a friend showed me, so I don’t have a tutorial or anything to show you, so just split the hair into three, fishtail each section, tie them off, and then braid them together. Yeah…
This one is a four-strand braid. It takes a bit of practice, and as Hannah can attest to, I had to talk myself through it the whole time I was doing it
I stretched it and turned it for this picture so you can’t actually tell, but somewhere I got messed up and started going backwards or something, so it actually curved in real life. Oh well.
*update* I wish I had seen Daven’s tutorial before I tried this out. I feel like I would have done better. And for anyone who hasn’t heard of/checked out Daven Mayeda, I would definitely recommend doing so. He’s the funniest hair guru out there.
This one sucked. I know. And even though I talked myself through it, I still sucked. Oh well, I’ll try it again. I don’t have enough fingers to hold a five-strand braid I guess. What am I, an octopus?

The One That Started It All- the Katniss Braid
I have always wanted to do hair. However, as I proved inept at doing my own hair, I thought it would never happen. I watched hair tutorials on YouTube all the time, but I could never do them.
That is, until I saw the Katniss braid.
Now my friends and I, we love the Hunger Games. Like, love. So one day at lunch, Dallas asked me to do it on her. And that’s when I started practicing. Then, almost every day, I would do someone’s hair, practicing all these styles that I had always wanted to try and never could.
And that is what brings you this blog today.
This was my very first Katniss braid, on Dallas. Yes, it sucks. But for a first time doing a Dutch braid, plus one that incorporates hair, plus one that wraps around the head diagonally, it’s alright. It needed to be brought lower on the head, more to the nape of the neck.
This one I actually managed to do on myself!! I get so excited when I can do things on myself
thanks to my brother’s crappy photo skills, you can’t see it well, but you can tell that I managed to get it lower on the head.
This one was done on my wonderful friend Fatima, who’s obsessed with the Hunger Games and this braid. I’ve done it on her a few times, but this is the only picture I have of it. As you can see, some of her many layers are popping out, but that can be easily fixed with hairspray/gel if we had it.
And the video that started it all:
