Prim braid | the Hunger Games
One of the braids I used to do most often in the beginning was the Prim braid on Nicole. This was before I started taking pics, and before this blog started.
Today, Nicole had our lunch, because of testing, so I took this opportunity to do the Prim braid again (for what may be the last time ever D: )
The Prim braid is super simple. Just two French braids on either side of the head, that sort of curve around the ear and then come down. Super easy, and super cute. I do think of this as more of a younger hairstyle, which is why I’ve only done it on Nicole. She’s the “baby” of our group, and the only one who could pull it off.

Prim’s braid | Catching Fire
So if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that the whole thing started with Katniss’ braid from the Hunger Games movie. So I am extra excited to be showing you Prim’s braid from the Catching Fire trailer today!! Who else can’t wait for the movie to come out??
So this is the back, and most of the hairstyle.
It’s pretty much like the Katniss braid, but with hair left over and a little bit more braid at the top. (Closeup farther down)
Here are both the side views. As you can see, it’s a bit messy, and I didn’t get the angle quite right. But the main point is still there.
And here is a closeup of the top part.
It is different from the Katniss braid in that the top part is a lace Dutch braid, then you go to a full Dutch braid (with adding hair on both sides), and then back to a lace Dutch braid.
And thanks to CuteGirlHairstyles for the tutorial!
And just for fun, the Catching Fire teaser trailer, haha

Lord of the Rings: Legolas
So, today I have a nerdy post for you. (As if this whole blog doesn’t ooze nerdiness anyway…) Today’s hairstyle is inspired by Legolas from Lord of the Rings. (Yes…today’s hair was inspired by a dude.) Now, I’ve only seen the first Lord of the Rings, and I don’t remember much of it. (Blasphemy, I know) Anyway…
Pretty cool, eh? So, it’s basically one fishtail, and two regular braids down the sides. The braids are Dutch-braided (hair-incorporating) up until about past the ear, then I stop incorporating hair and just braid regularly. This helps them stay and follow the path you want it to go so that it simply falls behind the ear instead of falling forwards into the face.
This was actually done for Graduation, where we were Rose Arch girls. I did not do my own hair, but I will post a pic of how my hair was for graduation too
It’s a waterfall braid with curls, and I was in love with it. Anyway, back to the real point of this post…
There was debate about whether or not they were fishtails on the real style, but that would have taken forever so we were fine with regular-braiding them. You can take a look for yourself and decide.
I’ve also done the Elrond style on Hannah, but did not get a chance to take a picture of it

The One That Started It All- the Katniss Braid
I have always wanted to do hair. However, as I proved inept at doing my own hair, I thought it would never happen. I watched hair tutorials on YouTube all the time, but I could never do them.
That is, until I saw the Katniss braid.
Now my friends and I, we love the Hunger Games. Like, love. So one day at lunch, Dallas asked me to do it on her. And that’s when I started practicing. Then, almost every day, I would do someone’s hair, practicing all these styles that I had always wanted to try and never could.
And that is what brings you this blog today.
This was my very first Katniss braid, on Dallas. Yes, it sucks. But for a first time doing a Dutch braid, plus one that incorporates hair, plus one that wraps around the head diagonally, it’s alright. It needed to be brought lower on the head, more to the nape of the neck.
This one I actually managed to do on myself!! I get so excited when I can do things on myself
thanks to my brother’s crappy photo skills, you can’t see it well, but you can tell that I managed to get it lower on the head.
This one was done on my wonderful friend Fatima, who’s obsessed with the Hunger Games and this braid. I’ve done it on her a few times, but this is the only picture I have of it. As you can see, some of her many layers are popping out, but that can be easily fixed with hairspray/gel if we had it.
And the video that started it all:
